I know that I’m supposed to write something insightful here, but I’m just inspired at the moment. As a result, I will simply use The Brimstone Blog for my own shameless self-promotion and let everyone know that the next Chris Skel Un-Happy Hour Acoustic Revival will take place this Friday, November 7 at the Cottage Bar in beautiful Teaneck, New Jersey. The festivities will begin at 5:30 sharp so come by and either celebrate the election of Barack Obama or drown your sorrows in booze because of it! Both are completely acceptable forms of behavior at the Chris Skel Un-Happy Hour Acoustic Revival!

Gas Blackout
There has been a lot of talk on blogs, e-mail, text messaging and the like, that everyone should not buy gas this Friday, May 2. This is not a bad idea, but it will not solve the overall problem of inflated gas prices. That is because we, as a nation, simply drive too much. A one day, no-buy may sting the oil companies for about a minute, but they know come Saturday and Sunday, the SUV’s will be lining up to get gas once again.
The fact is that the Arabs have us by the balls and the reason they do is because of our undying thirst for oil and gas. More drilling and the use of nuclear power is frowned upon so we msut rely on foreign oil. The only solution is to drive less.
If we all drove 5-10% less each week, we wouldn’t need as much gas and I guarantee that the prices at the pump would come down. Thy would not come down drastically, but they would come back down to a manageable and acceptable level.
I admit, I’m guilty as charged and I have been driving an SUV for the last ten years, but lately, I have been driving less. I have been trying to get the things I need to get done either on the way to or on the way home from work. In addition, I fill up on Wednesday nights as prices tend to be higher on the weekends and I fill up before the gauge hits a quarter of a tank so the sting of the fill up does not seem so bad.
These are tough times and sometimes you have to suck it up and not automatically continue the lifestyle you are used to. Believe me, it’s not so bad staying home on a Friday or Saturday night and drinking a martini in front of the TV. Try it, you may find that you like it.
